Christmas Café

New Community Church has been running a Christmas café each year since 2005, offering a warm and welcoming place for anyone in need, including those who are homeless, lonely or vulnerable. The café provides free food and hot drinks, as well as activities and entertainment for guests to enjoy.

The Christmas Café arose out of a desire to show the generosity of Jesus to those in society who least experience it, and to provide a safe and welcoming space at a time of the year when many traditional support services in the community are closed. The café is open to all, regardless of an individual's background, lifestyle choices or religious beliefs. The event is organised and run entirely by volunteers, and is funded by generous donations.

This year (2018), the Christmas Café will be held at Central Hall (St. Mary Street, Southampton, SO14 1NF) as usual, and will be running as follows:

Christmas Day (Tuesday 25th December 2018)
Open: 1-4pm.
A traditional Christmas dinner and dessert will be served on this day at 1.30pm. Hot drinks, crafts and games will also be available.

Boxing Day (Wednesday 26th December 2018)
Open: 1-4pm.
Hot food, drinks, crafts and games will be available.

How can I get involved?

We'd love for as many people as possible to support the Christmas Café this year. We have plenty of volunteers signed up now, but there are various other ways you can get involved and support the event, including:

  • Pray - Prayer support for the Café is very important, so please do pray for the Café and all those involved and attending.
  • Donate money - Monetary donations are very much appreciated, and can be given via the GoFundMe page or in the church offering on a Sunday morning at Central Hall (please place the donation in an envelope, clearly labelled 'Christmas Café' before placing in the offering). Donations can also be given in to the finance office at Central Hall (open Mon-Fri, 10am-3pm).
  • Donate gifts - Donations of the following items for men and women (all new and unwrapped, please) are also gratefully received, so they can be given as presents to those attending the Café: warm gloves, warm scarves, thermal hats, and thick socks - unisex colours are best. If you'd like to donate items, please bring the item (unwrapped) to the reception desk at Central Hall when it's open during the week, or to church on Sunday. If you need some inspiration or can't make it into the shops, you can buy these items straight from our Amazon wishlist:  http://amzn.eu/gdS24XO (and then bring them to Central Hall's reception).
If you have any other questions about the Christmas Café, or need any more information, please email communitycafe@newcommunity.org.uk.
