We're excited to announce that funding has been agreed for Hope Community School, and this seal of approval from the Government paves the way for it to open as Southampton's first Free School, in September this year, as planned.
On 7th April, Secretary of State for Education, The Rt Hon Justine Greening MP, formally agreed to enter into a Funding Agreement with New Generation Schools Trust, who are establishing the school in Southampton in response to a need for further educational choice in the city.
In order to ensure all Free Schools meet the Government's strict criteria, Funding Agreements (the contract between the Government and the organisation opening a school) are only approved once high standrads are met in every area of education, policies and financial planning, so this is a real milestone for Hope Community School. As a result of this Agreement, Hope Community School will be given formal Free School status and will have confirmed funding going forward.
The school's Principal, Steve Wright, said: "This is fantastic news for Hope Community School and the children who will attend it. A lot of people have put in an incredible amount of work and dedication to get to this point. We cannot wait to open our doors in September to welcome our first two reception classes of children."
As partner church to the new school, we are very much looking forward to supportng the school and its Christian ethos as it opens in September.
