Leadership values
Our leadership structure at New Community has evolved and changed over the years to reflect the different stages that we as a church have passed through.
There are some key principles that we have sought to be guided by over the years to ensure that we are exercising Godly leadership:
-
Leadership is servanthood exercised in context of community.
-
Anointing for the task of leadership comes from God not status or position. Leadership is inspirational and impartational not impositional.
-
The motivating force of leadership is love. We will not exert pressure through control or fear. We will endeavour to hear the voice of the God together with the Body. Major decisions will only be made in the context of dialogue with the wider church community.
-
Our task as leaders is to create the environment for every individual to become all God has intended.
-
Leadership is in the context of team.
In recent years we have examined again the nature of leadership at New Community. We had a model that no longer reflected who we were or how we were functioning. We had multiplied the number of weekly gatherings, the variety of projects and activities we were engaged with was increasing and other ministries were beginning to base themselves with us for accountability and support.
We needed a model that would ensure continued healthy relationships, effective communication, that would avoid the centralisation of all leadership functions and would engage with the emerging generation.
The Network Leadership Team set direction and oversee the day to day running of the network opf communities that constitute New Community.
Each Community has a Community Leadership Team made up of men and woman who oversee and direct the work of that particular community.
The Trustees are appointed to look after everything legal, financial and practical.
