Oasis Community Learning appoints Principal Designate for Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill

Oasis is pleased to announce the appointment of Ian Golding as Principal Designate of Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill.

The appointment of Mr Golding, currently working at Elliot School, Putney, marks a significant step on the way towards the establishment of the new academy for the west of the city. As Principal Designate his first responsibility will be to work with existing staff in order to prepare for the opening of the new academy in September 2008, which will specialise in Arts, Business and Enterprise and will replace Oaklands and Millbrook Community Schools. When Lord’s Hill opens its doors next autumn Ian will take up his role as the Principal of the new school.

Steve Chalke, founder and CEO of Oasis Community Learning is confident Mr Golding is the right person to lead the Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill:

“Ian will bring enormous strength and vitality to his new task in Southampton. His vision, creativity and commitment to innovation will play a major role in the development of Lord’s Hill as a thriving and successful academy. We all know that the performance of Southampton’s schools in enabling young people to take their place as confident and active citizens in society is a key factor in the future prosperity of the city. I am sure that we’ve got the right man to lead Lord’s Hill as it works to play its part in bringing opportunity to the young people of its surrounding communities.”

Councillor Peter Baillie, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services and Learning for Southampton City Council, said:

It is a coup for Southampton to have attracted such high calibre candidate, whose motivational ethos and proven track record in education excellence is sure to be an asset to the city. To achieve the very best for our children we need the very best leaders, so I am delighted at this appointment.”
