Happenings at James Street

As you may know, James Street Church, just down the road from Central Hall, is in the heart of St Mary's and the Golden Grove estate - one of the poorest and neediest estates in the south of England. An informal but very close relationship exists between our two churches, and New Community Church has been able to serve the James Street congregation in various ways over the years. In September a new opportunity to serve is opening up. As part of long-term vision to open the building every day for the local community, James Street Church is starting a Drop-in coffee morning and toddler group on a Thursday morning from Thursday 13th September. If you would like to be involved in this project there are several ways you can help:

  • toddlersCome along! If you are a mum at home with small children, you would be most welcome to be part of the toddler group - you would be a friendly face at a similar stage in life to the mums who will come along from the estate. James Street Church has very few mums with toddlers, although the estate has many. If you don't have small children but are available on a Thursday morning and would like to help with serving coffee, setting up the rooms and chatting to people from the estate, you are welcome too.
  • Child flowerProvide resources! We are applying for funding, but we would like to buy some basic equipment "up front" to get us started. Your small group may like to buy some toys or donate some money for toys to the group. If you would like to do this please get in touch with Carolyn Chart who will let you know what we need.
  • Pray! You or your small group could commit to praying regularly for all aspects of the drop-in and especially that we would be an expression of God's heart of compassion and bring salvation to the estate.

We are excited about what God is going to do at James Street and hope that you and your small group will feel inspired to join in with us in some way.
