Opportunities to help

Volunteers can offer help at the Café in a variety of ways:

·         As a friendly face to our guests

·         Serving food to tables

·         Serving teas and coffees

·         Stewarding on the front door

·         Helping with kitchen preparation

·         Setting up and running the clothing and toiletries stand

·         Setting up tables and chairs

·         Clearing away and cleaning up after guests have left

It is important that all volunteers remain flexible and responsive to what is asked for by the Team Leader.

To help in the kitchen, it may be necessary to complete a ‘Food and Hygiene Course’. For more information on helping in the kitchen please see one of the Core Team.

Helping out on a regular basis

We recommend potential/new volunteers come to the Café for a few weeks and see how they get on (note: a Volunteer Agreement form must still be completed). If they would like to help on a more regular basis or join the monthly rota they should let one of the Core Team know. The rota can be sent by email or a copy can be given to any volunteer on request.

What will be expected of the Volunteers?

Everyone but the Kitchen Leader, kitchen team and people setting up tables should arrive at the Café by 4:30pm and collect their name badges.

The Café opens to guests at 5pm and closes at 6pm. We ask those on the rota for that week to help with the clear up. This involves clearing plates and cups, cleaning tables, packing away chairs and tables, sweeping and mopping the floor. This is usually finished between 6:20-6:45pm. The kitchen team stay until all washing up is done and the kitchen is clear and clean. This is usually finished by 6:45-7:15pm.
