Leadership
Our leadership structure at New Community has evolved and changed over the years to reflect the different stages that we as a church have passed through.
There are some key principles that we have sought to be guided by over the years to ensure that we are exercising Godly leadership:
- Leadership is servanthood exercised in context of community.
- Anointing for the task of leadership comes from God not status or position. Leadership is inspirational and impartational not impositional.
- The motivating force of leadership is love. We will not exert pressure through control or fear. We will endeavour to hear the voice of the God through the Body. Major decisions will only be made in the context of dialogue with the wider church community.
- Our task as leaders is to create the environment for every individual to become all God has intended.
- Leadership is in the context of team.
In recent years we have examined again the nature of leadership at New Community. We had a model that no longer reflected who we were or how we were functioning. We had multiplied the number of weekly gatherings, the variety of projects and activities we were engaged with was increasing and other ministries were beginning to base themselves with us for accountability and support.
We needed a model that would ensure continued healthy relationships, effective communication, that would avoid the centralisation of all leadership functions and would engage with the emerging generation.
The following pages contain information on the people in the church, especially those involved in its running and organisation.
- The network Leadership Team consist of those who hold key areas of responsibility across our church community. This group meets together every week for prayer and once a term meets more formally to review progress and develop plans for the future.
- The Management Team meet monthly to oversee the day to day activities of our church community. This involves many of the practical elements entailed in running a charity, including, budgets, capital expenditure, health & safety and staffing.
