The Red Bus Hits Harefield

A report from Project Leader Kelvin McMahon

Red Bus LogoThe Bus has been busy through the winter months with the ongoing projects in Mansbridge, Eastleigh, Bitterne Manor and Northam. In January we had the opportunity through Romance Academy to take some of the young people from Mansbridge and Eastleigh on a weekend away in Devon. This gave us an opportunity to get to know them on another level and gave us fresh excitement for building relationships with the young people we meet on the Bus.

At the beginning of March we started an exciting new project on the Harefield estate. On the first night we had over 50 young people visit the Bus to sample the delights of the hot chocolate, games consoles and the new football table, which was bought with a donation from the local doctors’ surgery.

28Hitting the streets in the cold and dark winter months is never an easy task so I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our hard working and dedicated teams of volunteers for their commitment to the young people that we meet through this project… a special big up to the “Dream Team” you know who you are!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

The Red Bus projects are totally reliant on teams of volunteers, and we are looking for new volunteers to join our existing teams. Joining one of these teams is a fun and accessible way of reaching out to the young people in our local areas. Whatever your age, experience or background, if you have a heart to work with young people or would like to drive a double decker bus, please contact Kelvin McMahon: kelvin@newcommunity.org.uk or 023 8038 5129.
