Million Hours of Kindness - HOPE on the Flowers in May

Throughout 2008, HOPE are encouraging Christians all over the UK to be part of a pledge to bring a million hours of kindness to the people around them. During the May Bank Holiday here in Southampton, the idea is to have teams of people going out onto estates (wearing bright green HOPE 08 t-shirts!) to serve people by clearing gardens, painting fences, running community events and generally helping out in a practical way.

Hope on the Flowers logoNew Community and City Life Church are partnering to send out teams to work in the Flower Estate during May. In order for this to work, we need people to volunteer to be part of a team - THIS MEANS YOU!!

There are different teams you can join and different activities you can opt to help out with. Here are the details:

Hope Teams: This will involve gardening, trips to the tip, graffiti removal, rubbish clearing and fence repairs. We will try to accommodate any team preferences given. You will need to be at Aster House for 9:15. We will start at 9:30 with a team meeting (inc. prayer) and then go out in our teams from 10:00 until 16:00. Free lunch provided. (Aster House is on Aster Road, SO16 3BG)

Café: This will involve serving coffee and cake, chatting with those present and looking after kids and the soft play available. You will need to be at Aster House for 10:45. Café open 11:00 to 13:00.

Inflatables: This will involve over-seeing 7-14 yr old kids as they play on the bouncy castle and other inflatables. You will need to be at Cantell Sports Hall for 17:45. The event will run from 18:00 until 19:30. (Cantell Sports Hall, SO16 3GJ)

Car Wash: This will involve washing people’s cars in aid of Naomi House, who provide a home environment for children with life limiting conditions. You will need to be at Burgess Road Surgery’s Car Park (SO16 3BD) on Tulip Road for 12:15. The Car Wash will be operational from 12:30 to 14:30.

5-a-side Footy: This will involve organising and playing 5-a-side football with teenagers. You will need to be at Cantell Sports Hall for 11:45. The tournament will run between 12:00 and 15:00.

All workers will be given the chance to purchase a very beautiful green HOPE 08 T-shirt for the nominal cost of £2.50. The idea of the T-shirts is to present a coherent and united image of HOPE, showing our city that as one church in Southampton, we want to be a presence of love and hope and action.
