Bind Us Together...to be the church that Jesus really wants
Our church started life in the 1970s as part of what has become known as the restoration movement. We were one of a number of new churches that were aiming to restore a New Testament style of church life. This movement has changed the face of the church in the UK. Many new churches have been created and many of the features of church pioneered in restoration have now become part of churches of other denominations.
In his new book ‘Bind us Together ... to be the church that Jesus really wants’, John Fleming reviews the movement, including a detailed look at the development of our own church. He then goes on to pose the question ‘What is the church that Jesus really wants?’ The final part of the book looks forward. What are the key developments needed to restore the church from where it is now to the full biblical picture?
Unity in the church is seen as a key area for us to be working on. Despite progress in this area over recent years, the divisions between different groups in the church still contrast markedly with the picture of unity that was so much on Jesus’ heart. The book challenges all Christians to develop a vision for the church and church leaders in particular to consider unity as a key feature of church life as they plan for the future.
