berry headerFlower Of Justice - Love @ Christmas

For many of us Christmas is a time of celebration, of family and being together, for giving and receiving of gifts and probably eating more than we should in one meal than we do in an average week!

Sadly for many people in our community this is not the case. They may live by themselves and have no family, they may not have enough money to buy a special meal to celebrate Christmas, let alone enough money to pay for the gas and electricity to cook the meal. For many the joy of Christmas is a distant memory or a constant worry - "How can I afford to buy presents for my children this year?", so many children go without a simple present, while others have too many to play with...

Fortunately for the last 6 years Bob Light and the Flowers of Justice team, part of New Community, have been helping out many needy people on the Flowers Estate at Christmas time. Through our support they provide turkeys to help the families have a special meal on Christmas Day, they contribute towards the gas and electricity bills of the elderly. Many children who would have not received a present this year will now have a few thanks to the work of the team in that part of the city.

The children also have a Christmas Party at Aster House and an opportunity to choose a present for their parents or carers (without them seeing!) and help to wrap it so they can learn the importance of giving as well as the fun of getting.

For many of us Christmas is a great time of year of celebration and significance as we remember the gift of Jesus to the poor of the community (The Shepherds) and to the wise and wealthy (The Kings). Jesus is still relevant to all communities, cultures and classes and we believe this is a practical way to express God's love for all humanity.

Can we encourage you to give generously to our ‘LOVE @ CHRISTMAS’ offering that will contribute towards the work of Flowers of Justice this Christmas into the Flowers Estate, helping those who are unable to help themselves. If you are also available to volunteer some of your time over the next few weeks please get in touch with the church office.
