LOVE @ CHRISTMAS

The Christmas Café ran for the second time last year in 2007 opening the doors of Central Hall every day over the Christmas week. It offered a warm and safe environment with hot food and drinks, and on Christmas day a traditional meal with presents for all (typically gloves, hats, scarves). Attracting 60-70 guests a day, the cafe was only possible due to the massive support from within the church with help from more than 100 volunteers over the course of the week, and massive donations of mince pies and gifts of gloves, hats and scarves!

Feedback from those who came the last couple of years has been so positive that this year we are opening the doors of Central Hall again in 2008. The café will open between 1pm and 5pm every afternoon from Wednesday 24th December to Saturday 27th December to offer a friendly face, a coffee, warm food and some entertainment. The vision is to provide a safe and caring environment for the homeless, vulnerable and lonely people in our city. The cafe will be a peaceful place where individuals who may otherwise find Christmas hard can come and find friendship and have some fun. We are expecting around 100 guests each day. On Christmas Day we will be serving a traditional Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings!

This year’s team is again looking for support.  Volunteers would be required from 12:15pm – 5:45pm on the days they are helping, and there is a training day on 13th December providing necessary health & safety information and further details.

If you cannot volunteer this year but would still like to be involved, we also need donations of various goods for presents, money to buy food etc. and it is always good if people are prepared to pray! We need donations of the following items; gloves, hats, scarves, socks and sleeping-bags (if wrapped please mark male or female and indicate contents), wrapping paper, mince pies and Christmas cakes and Christmas crackers. We also would like to borrow board games (please mark with name if they are to be returned).

Many thanks for your support, if you have any questions or want to get involved please contact: Dave Swaffield or Jo Musgrove on christmascafe@newcommunity.org.uk
